Anjan Ravi, I'm a true-blooded petrolhead. Hope you enjoy our news stories, launch coverages, motorshow coverages and test drive reports.
Will be manufactured and launched in India next year.
Here’s a spyshot of the Chevrolet Spin MPV testing in Baroda shot by IAB Facebook fan Dr’deep Mishra.
Based on import/export data, the Spin seen here was imported from Indonesia and is powered by a 1.3-liter diesel engine (Fiat-sourced MultiJet engine) that produces 75 PS at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm from 1,750 – 2,500 rpm. General Motors has announced that the Spin will launch locally next year. Though unconfirmed, GM is able to fast-track the launch by relocating the Spin’s tooling and equipment from the Indonesian plant to Halol.
Currently on sale in markets like Indonesia, Brazil, Thailand and Philippines, the Spin measures 4,360 mm in length, 1,735 mm in width and 1,656 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm, and ride height of 157 mm. Chevrolet also offers the car with 86 PS/115 Nm 1.2-liter and 109 PS/142 Nm 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engines. A manual transmission is standard, while a 6-speed automatic is available with the latter.
The car is mounted on independent McPherson strut front suspension with coil springs and stabilizer bars, and semi-independent torsion beam, coil springs and stabilizer bars at the rear. Disc brakes are fitted at the front, while drums are used at the rear. Top-end variants gets ABS.
Interior facets are the digital speedometer, switches finished in silver and chrome accents, 162-liter boot space that increases to 710 liters with folded rear seats and 1,688 liters with all seats folded flat, two-tone upholstery and trim, Dual airbags, Bluetooth-enabled audio system, with multi-function steering wheel, and Air-conditioning vents for third-row seats.
Chevrolet also launched a crossover-styled variant on the Spin called the Spin Activ, at the Sao Paulo Motor Show last year. It gets a fiber body kit, black masking on the headlamps, external spare wheel, skid guards, and darkened alloy wheels, and is positioned atop the regular variant.
