BMW 1 Series – Motorshow Focus
Riza Rizvi, Hopelessly in love with everything on four wheels. Interested in cars since my formative years, with an unhealthy affinity for exotics and tuners. Fondness for the open road with high-octane machinery for company!
The facelift was launched in India in September.
The 2015 BMW 1 Series was showcased at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show which was held in September. The hatchback debuted at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, with cosmetic changes and new powertrains, and was introduced in India in September.
On the outside, the 1 Series has design cues that are taken from the 2 Series. The face gets slimmer angel-eye LED headlights with LED DRLs as standard. The signature kidney grille is now larger and the bumper has also been changed. The flanks receive new alloy wheel design and a very sharp shoulder line going all the way to the tail lights. At the rear, the LED tail lights get the distinctive dual L-shaped clusters as well as a modified bumper.
The interior features a 6.5-inch display for the BMW iDrive infotainment system and automatic climate control as standard, there is also an 8.8-inch display for the optional navigation system. The cabin is decorated with aluminum finish for the AC vents, center console, steering wheel and door release, while a gloss-black panel has been used to embellish the dashboard.
The 2015 BMW 1 Series derives power from a new range of three- and four-cylinder engines. The base unit for the petrol engine lineup is the 1.5-liter three cylinder mill producing 109 hp and 180 Nm of peak torque. This unit found in the 116i gives it a top speed of 190 km/h and a 0-96 km/h (0-60 mph) time of 10.9 seconds. The diesel range begins from the 116d which has a 1.5-liter three cylinder pushing out 116 hp and 270 Nm of torque. Both engines can be coupled to either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed Steptronic gearbox.
