Available only on the top-end VX version.
Tata Motors has formally launched the Tata Safari Storme VariCOR 400 version. It is priced at INR 13,25,530 for the top-end VX 4X2 option and INR 14,59,952 for the top-end VX 4X4 variant (all prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi).
Available only in the top-end VX trim, the VariCOR 400 engine is an upgraded version of the same 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine doing duty in the current Storme. It is tuned to produce 156 PS at 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm at 1,750-2,500 rpm, which is 6 PS and 80 Nm higher than what the VariCOR 320 produces in the other variants of the Safari Storme. The increase in output makes the new Safari Storme VariCOR 400 faster than the previous VX version by 0.5 second while accelerating from 0-60 km/h and by 1 second while sprinting from 0-100 km/h.
With the higher power and torque, Tata Motors has given the VariCOR 400 a six-speed manual transmission and the shift-on-the-fly all-wheel drive system, while the lower variants continue with the same five-speed manual gearbox.
