Bookings already underway for a deposit of INR 1 Lakh.
VW India will re-enter the niche premium hatchback segment with the VW Beetle on December 19. It will be imported into the country via the CBU route, and bookings are currently being accepted for a deposit of INR 1 Lakh.
The new Beetle looks more angular and masculine than the previous model, which was discontinued due to poor sales in India. Spyshots have revealed that it will ride on smaller rims for better ride quality, and come with bi-xenon headlamps, power retractable ORVMs with optional chrome covers, rear spoiler, and foglamps.
The Beetle's interior will be equipped generously with features such as dual zone automatic climate control, touchscreen display, panoramic glass roof, auto dimming rear view mirror, leather upholstery, and heated front seats.

Unlike the previous model, the only engine option available to Indian customers is a 1.4-liter TSI four cylinder petrol engine producing 147 hp. It is paired to a 7-speed DSG gearbox with paddles on the steering wheel.
The new Beetle is expected to be priced between INR 30-35 Lakhs (Ex showroom, Delhi), and rival the Mini Cooper in the niche hatchback segment.
