Expected to launch in H1 2016.

According to Car and Bike, the new Ford Mustang will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 in Noida, India in February, and could also be launched around that time. If the report turns out to be true, the Ford Mustang will be the first American muscle car to officially launch in India.

The Mustang will be a brand shaping tool for the American car maker in India.

Talks of the new Mustang being introduced in India have been going on for a long time, ever since Ford announced that the current Mustang will also be available as an RHD model. Spyshots of the Ford Mustang caught on Indian soil further affirm its arrival in the country.

Ford India is likely to sell the Mustang in two variants: the entry-level Mustang EcoBoost and Mustang GT. The former defies tradition by sourcing power from a turbocharged 2.3-liter four cylinder EcoBoost, while the latter sticks to tradition by offering a N/A 5.0-liter V8 engine. It can be paired to a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox, which sends power to the rear wheels only.

The new Mustang will set up a niche 2-door segment in India that - like any American muscle car - offers brute road presence and a powerful engine at a price tag likely cheaper than its European equivalents. It's unclear if Ford India will also introduce the convertible bodystyle of the Mustang in India.
