The production-spec BMW 1 Series sedan (name unconfirmed) has been spotted testing in China, featuring fewer camouflage wrapping than before. The model could make its world debut at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show, reportedly.
Spyshots reveal an exterior design that, upon closer notice, draws heavy inspiration from the BMW Concept Compact Sedan that the company unveiled at the 2015 Guangzhou Auto Show. The prototype features the production-spec headlamps, bumpers, LED taillamps, dual exhaust pipes, which are similar to that of the concept model.
Based on the FWD UKL platform, the engine lineup is likely to be sourced from the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, which includes a 135 hp 1.5-liter three cylinder turbo petrol, 150 hp 2.0-liter three cylinder turbodiesel, and a 231 hp 2.0-liter four cylinder petrol option. A 6-speed manual or an 8-speed ZF automatic are the likely candidates to pair with these mills.

As of now, BMW India has not confirmed plans of launching the BMW 1 Series sedan in the country, but is likely to consider selling the model here, given the good demand for entry-level compact luxury models is only being met by the Audi A3 Sedan and Mercedes CLA, both of which are locally assembled at their respective plants.
