German publication, Auto Zeitung, has rendered the next generation 2017 BMW 5 Series, using the latest G11/G12 BMW 7 Series for inspiration.

The next BMW 5 Series will share more than the CLAR platform with the 7 Series, which includes design elements and equipment.

Up front, the render incorporates the larger kidney grille and the sleeker headlights of the new 7 Series, which gets Laser headlights as an option and LED headlights as standard. The rear of the 2017 5 Series (G30/G31) is reported to get the L-shaped LED taillights, no matter what the bodystyle is (the next generation 5 Series will continue to be made available in sedan, long-wheelbase sedan for the Chinese market, estate/touring and GT).

Inside, the report highlights that features will trickle down from the more expensive 7 Series which debuted the iDrive touch interface with gesture control, the automatic parking system, and other features aiding in part-autonomous driving like automatic lane change and overtaking control.

Features such as iDrive touch interface with gesture control, the automatic parking system, and semi-autonomous tech will be introduced in the 5 Series.

Based on the CLAR lightweight architecture which will see integration of carbon fiber and aluminium, the 2017 5 Series will inherit its six-cylinder engine options from the new 7 Series. The four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines are reported to come from a new engine family, while a plug-in hybrid version would draw power from a three-cylinder engine paired to electric motor(s).

According to a recent report, the 2016 Paris Motor Show will host the world premiere of the new 5 Series. Expect the Indian launch of the sedan to take place within 6 months of its global debut, while the GT could arrive at a later period as a CBU offering.
