The Touring (Estate) and GT versions of the 2017 BMW 5 Series are expected to join the lineup in 2017.

The 2017 BMW 5 Series will be based on BMW's all new CLAR RWD platform sourced from the 2016 BMW 7 Series, and is likely to be the first mass-produced mid-size sedan to feature carbon fiber construction in some portions of its body. Expect it to shed significant kilos over the previous model, whilst improving structural rigidity.

The engine lineup could include new four cylinder petrol and diesel engines, and straight-six twin-turbo options from the 7 Series. For enthusiasts looking forward to the next generation BMW M5, it is expected to output over 600 hp from a V8 turbocharged engine. A plug-in hybrid eDrive variant with a 4- or 3-cylinder engine paired to an electric motor(s) is likely to be included as well.
