The second generation Audi Q5 that is slated for a launch in mid-2016 has been rendered by RM Cardesign. This rendering of the 2016 Audi Q5 accurately suggests that the SUV will inherit physical features from the company's flagship SUV, the Audi Q7, including the redesigned hexagonal grille, and the sharp edges and lines across the body.
The functional changes on the front fascia will comprise of large air intakes in the lower front end and Matrix LED head lamps. The rear fascia will receive revamped LED tail lights, a re-styled bumper and new exhaust ends.
Based on the new MLB Evo platform which is made of aluminium and high-strength steel, the 2016 Audi Q5 is expected to shed about 100 kg of kerb weight. Audi's latest technologies including the Audi Virtual Cockpit, MMI system with 8.3-inch display that supports Android Auto and CarPlay, Stop&Go adaptive cruise control including traffic-jam assist, Audi pre sense city, and Matrix LED headlights are a given on the new Q5.
Powering the 2016 model is reported to be the engines and transmissions from the new Audi A4. It will include four- and six-cylinder, petrol and diesel motors, and the newly developed 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch and 6-speed manual, paired to an optional Quattro AWD system. The RS version (Audi SQ5) that would be launched a year or so into the lifecycle, is expected to pack 450 hp of peak power, to compete with the likes of the Mercedes GLC63 AMG and the Porsche Macan Turbo.
