New Persona and Saga to arrive later in the year.
In an interview with Paultan, Proton Chairman Tun Mahathir has revealed that the company will retain the existing model nameplates for the future product range.
He said:
As for new models, we will no longer change our names. We will stick to the same familiar names, but with upgraded technologies and looks. So in the future, you will see new versions of the Saga, Persona and Perdana, and maybe one or two more.
As for the highly anticipated 2016 Proton Perdana, Dato' Abdul Harith Bin Abdullah, Proton CEO, has divulged that the Honda Accord-based sedan will launch in Q1 2016, and will no longer be exclusive to government employees. Unlike the previous model (which was a rebadged Accord), the new Perdana will feature an all new exterior and interior design that promises to be a departure.
It will retain the Honda-sourced mechanicals though, which include a 2.0-liter petrol producing 154 hp/189 Nm of torque and a 2.4-liter unit generating 177 hp/222 Nm. Both engines will be mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission.
