Joint development program to gain traction.
At the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, Toshihiro Suzuki, the new President and COO of Suzuki Motor Corporation, has said that 15 new models will be launched in India in the next five years, reports the Times of India.
The report says that Suzuki said that 13 of the 15 products are replacements and upgrades to the existing cars, with an aim to shift from small to bigger cars in Maruti Suzuki's portfolio. The focus however will remain on B- and C-Segment models.
The list of the upcoming Maruti cars by 2020 includes Baleno premium hatchback, (codename) YBA compact crossover, and a large MPV codenamed RX. Like in the prominent markets worldwide, one can be expect the incorporation of the mild hybrid technology - SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) in most of the new models and refreshes.
In addition, Mr. Suzuki disclosed that the parent company (SMC) will involve the Indian subsidiary (MSIL) in developing new products for the global markets. This indicates that MSIL's R&D capabilities will be substantially increased. The focus of joint development will be reducing the weight and improving the fuel efficiency of upcoming models.

Maruti Suzuki is expected to unveil the sub-4 metre SUV, codenamed Maruti YBA, at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, and is also reported to be working on the next gen Swift, Dzire, Ertiga and Wagon R, all due for a launch within 2 years.
