Expected to debut at the 2016 NAIAS.
MotorOnline has come up with a digital mockup of the 2017 Mercedes E Class, which is reported to have its premiere at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show (2016 NAIAS) in January 2016.
The fifth generation of the popular nameplate is reported to measure 55 mm longer than the current model, though shorter overhangs are set to mask the increased wheelbase. What is known for sure is that the new E Class will look similar to today’s S and C Class models, with its characteristic Multibeam LED headlights and an aerodynamic design (Cd expected at 0.23).
Based on the MRA (Mercedes Rear Wheel drive architecture), the W213 E Class is expected to integrate increased use of high-strength steel and aluminium to shed an approximate 100 kg from today’s model.
Under the hood, the new E Class is expected with new generation four-cylinder diesel engines, and a new six-cylinder diesel and petrol. According to reports, the new in-line six-cylinder petrol engine and the common-rail diesel motors are undergoing pilot production at the company’s Unterturkheim factory in Germany.
Speaking of its cabin, spyshots have shown the 2017 E Class to have an S Class-derived cabin with minimal buttons. The dashboard is likely to be two 12.3 inch displays serving the functions of an instrument cluster and a COMAND infotainment system.
The new E Class is expected to launch in India by the end of next year. The E Class is one of Mercedes-Benz India’s best sellers, and is assembled at the Pune plant. The new E Class would be assembled at this plant too, though initially it may arrive through the CBU route.
