The 2017 E-Class will carry autonomous technologies not seen before in a production car.
Mercedes is currently developing the successor to the E-Class (codename - Mercedes W213) that is expected to make its debut at next year’s North American International Auto Show 2016 in January.

The car will be based on the MRA platform and therefore is expected to be lighter and more agile than the current generation. The MRA architecture is aluminium intensive and can be configured with different powertrains owing to its modular nature. The new E-Class is expected to carry autonomous technologies that have not yet been seen in a production car.
The interior shots show that the sedan has been inspired heavily from the S-Class, which sports an all-digital instrument cluster. In the test mule it can be seen that there are also analog displays that are mixed with digital readouts. The tachometer and speedometer are analog units and the familiar COMAND infotainment system is seen displayed on top of the center console. The paucity of buttons inside the cabin is noteworthy and points to a clutter free and clean layout.

It has been reported that the current V6 and V8 engines are likely to be replaced by inline-six units. Base models, as currently, will get four cylinder engines that are likely to be paired to the Mercedes’ 9-speed automatic transmission. In all likelihood an AMG variant will be offered in 2017 with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing around 600 bhp.
