Production-spec Suzuki iM-4 to be called Suzuki “Ignis” – Report
Aravind Jayachandran, I'm a huge petrolhead, an automobile engineer, a massive fan of Ferrari, and loves collecting die-cast models for inspiration.
It could be the successor to the sub-compact Suzuki Ignis discontinued in 2006.
According to a Suzuki fan page on Instagram, the production-spec Suzuki iM-4 will be called the Suzuki Ignis. They have also posted a render of the production-spec model, which looks nearly identical to the iM-4 concept model.
It’s unclear if it will be sold in India as the Maruti Ignis, as Maruti is already working on another sub-4m SUV (codenamed YBA), which draws heavy influence from the Maruti XA Alpha Concept from the 2012 Auto Expo.
If Suzuki christens the production-spec iM-4 as the Suzuki Ignis, it will serve as the successor to the sub-compact Suzuki Ignis which was sold in Europe, Australia and most parts of Asia, before it got discontinued in 2006.
The production-spec model is likely to pack a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder Boosterjet engine (which will debut in the Suzuki Baleno hatchback) and the Euro-spec Suzuki Swift’s 1.2-litre Dualjet engine. A diesel option could also be offered, which could source power from the 1.3-liter DDiS diesel engine.
