Will be imported from Indonesia through the CKD route.
Yamaha India has announced a press conference for August 11, 2015 in New Delhi, which is likely to see the launch of the YZF-R3 sportbike. Unveiled last year, the Yamaha R3 is presently manufactured only by PT. YIMM (Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing), which will export the bike to India through CKD kits, reportedly.
Yamaha has decided to launch the R3 instead of the smaller R25, as the segment is composed of established heavyweights such as the KTM RC390 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300 to name a couple. The R3 is powered by a twin-cylinder, fuel-injected 321 cc engine which develops 42 PS and 29.6 Nm of torque and is paired to a 6-speed transmission.
The motorcycle weighs 169 kg (wet weight) and is shod with a 298 mm disc up front and a 220 mm disc at the rear. Yamaha has also equipped the R3 with racing-inspired forged pistons, a direct drive camshaft and carburized conrods. According to an earlier report, ABS will be an optional extra on the R3.
