Expected to be powered by the 199.5 cc engine from the 200 NS.
Rajiv Bajaj, managing director and CEO at Bajaj Auto, confirmed that the company will roll out a new Bajaj Avenger this year, in a shareholders' meeting last week. Mr. Bajaj said that a new Avenger will be introduced in the third quarter of this financial year, though further details were not divulged.
An earlier report stated that the new Avenger will look more-or-less similar to the current model, but will be powered by the 200 NS's 199.5 cc engine. Where the current Avenger is powered by a 220 cc engine, the smaller displacement unit from the 200 NS actually makes more power and torque (the 220 cc engine in the Avenger develops 19.03 PS at 8,400 rpm and 17.5 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm; the 200 cc engine on the 200 NS makes 23.52 PS at 9,500 rpm and 18.3 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm).
Owing to the increased performance credentials, the new Avenger is likely to be equipped with a rear disc brake, though it remains to be seen if ABS will be offered on the cruiser. Chrome-embellished parts, a low-riding position and a slender tank will continue to be seen on the new Avenger, indicating that its design will not mark a departure from the current offering.
