Downsized engine will produce more power and torque.
According to a report on ZigWheels, Bajaj Auto will introduce the Avenger with a 200 cc towards the end of this year. The Indian major has been focussing on the Pulsar and Discover nameplates of late, but intends to re-ignite its interest in the cruiser segment with an improved Avenger.
The report states that the 200 cc Avenger will look more-or-less similar to the current Avenger with a low-riding position, a slender tank and plenty of chrome-embellished parts. The major change will be its engine: Where the current Avenger uses the 220 cc engine borrowed from the Pulsar 220, the new model will use the 200 NS's 200 cc engine.
While the 200 NS's engine is down on displacement, it develops higher power and torque. For reference, the Avenger currently makes 19.03 PS at 8,400 rpm and 17.5 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm whereas the 200 cc engine on the 200 NS produces 23.52 PS at 9,500 rpm and 18.3 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm.

The gearbox could also be upgraded to the 6-speed unit, the report adds. Given the increased power and torque, the new Avenger could benefit from a rear disc brake, however, ABS would not be offered.
Tentative launch date: By end-2015
