Will make its debut in the Indian market for the first time.

Volkswagen is expected to unveil the second generation VW Tiguan crossover at the 2015 Frankfurt Show, with an all new design, platform and range of fuel efficient engines.

The next generation Tiguan could lose the boxy design for a dynamic look.

The 2016 VW Tiguan will draw influence from the latest concept models that the company have shown in the last 12-18 months. A render by Autobild depicts the second generation model with an evolutionary design that borrows cues from the new VW Passat.

Reports also suggest that VW will add a “long-wheelbase” variant (VW Tiguan XL) with 3 rows of seats, as well as a coupe-crossover variant (VW Tiguan CC) further expanding the market appeal of the compact crossover.

Volkswagen will drop the PQ35 platform sourced from the previous VW Golf for the lighter and efficient MQB platform, which underpins the latest range of VWs (such as the new Passat and Golf).

Reports say a Tiguan Coupe (VW Tiguan CC), which will feature a sportier design, will be part of the second gen’s lineup.

Under the hood, the Volkswagen Tiguan is expected to pack a new range of downsized TSI and TDI engines, which could include a frugal 1.0-liter TSI three-cylinder engine and a 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine. Entry-level variants will be front-wheel drive, while VW’s 4MOTION electronic all-wheel drive system will be offered as standard for higher variants.

For the Indian market, Volkswagen has confirmed that it will launch five new models in the next 24 months, with reports suggesting that one of them is the next generation Tiguan. To rival the likes of the Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota Fortuner, the Tiguan could follow the CKD channel.
