To be assembled at the Pune plant from August this year.

Seen here are the first spyshots of the all-new Land Rover Discovery Sport on Indian roads, ahead of a launch reported to take place in August this year. The spiritual successor to the Freelander - Land Rover's current entry-level model - is expected to be assembled in Pune from CKD kits, right from the beginning.

The Discovery Sport will be powered by a 2.2-liter diesel engine for the Indian market.

The Discovery Sport measures 4,599 mm in length, 2,173 mm in width, 1,724 mm in height and 2,741 mm in wheelbase. It also gets a wading depth of 600 mm, and approach, ramp and departure angles of 25, 21 and 31 degrees respectively.

For the Indian market, the Discovery Sport is likely to be offered with the older 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine, and not the modern 2.0-liter JLR-developed Ingenium diesel engine which is available in Europe. The 2.2-liter motor would be offered in power states of 147 bhp and 187 bhp, and will come paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission with 4WD capability as standard.

The Discovery Sport will be the only car in its class to get a 5+2 seating arrangement.

The Discovery Sport will compete with the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Volvo XC60 and the Mercedes M Class (Mercedes GLE) primarily. What will set the Discovery Sport apart from its competition will be its 5+2 seating configuration, a first in its segment.
