Indian launch confirmed for July 21, 2015.
In two separate instances, Indian Autos Blog readers Mr. Chetan Yadav and Mr. Charan Kumar snapped the Hyundai Creta on test near the Yamuna Expressway and on the outskirts of Chennai respectively. The Creta, Hyundai Motor India Limited's (HMIL) first compact SUV, is confirmed to launch in India on July 21, 2015.
If reports are true, the Creta will enter production at the Chennai plant of the Korean car maker tomorrow (June 20, 2015), with petrol and diesel engines paired to manual and automatic transmissions. The engines are expected to be borrowed from the Verna and include the 1.4- and 1.6-liter CRDi diesel engines matched to a 6-speed manual transmission, and the 1.6-liter VTVT petrol with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
According to Hyundai, the Creta will be a global compact SUV featuring a “bold front, voluminous side and sporty rear”. It will launch first in India, and then in worldwide markets which could include Europe, South Africa, Australia, South East Asia and even the United States if demand exists.

Based on the Hyundai ix25 available exclusively in China, the Creta will rival the Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster and the top-end variants of the Ford EcoSport (on price) in India, not to forget, the Maruti S-Cross which is also expected to arrive next month.
