Maruti Suzuki has introduced the Celerio ZXi with its AMT (automated manual transmission) technology, commemorating the first anniversary of the hatchback.

Maruti Celerio ZXi AMT features
The Celerio delivers an ARAI-rated 23.1 km/l with both transmissions.

The Celerio, which was unveiled and launched at the Auto Expo last year comes with 5-speed manual and automated manual transmissions. The latter was available only on the base LXi and VXi variants, which were devoid of safety features like airbags. Reacting to customer response, the company is now offering the AMT on the top-end ZXi variant as well, though the price announcement is yet to be made.

In comparison to the VXi AMT, the ZXi AMT gets body-colored door handles and wing mirrors with integrated turn signals, a 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth, MP3, CD, USB and AUX-in and 4 speakers, a keyless entry system, electrically-adjustable wing mirrors, steering mounted audio controls, tilt steering, dual front airbags (though the brochure mentions only a driver-side airbag) and a rear wiper/washer.

The Celerio became the first passenger car to come with AMT when it was launched last year.

Features like ABS, foglights, alloy wheels and driver seat height adjuster are not seen on the ZXi AMT, but come on the ZXi Opt MT.

The Celerio is powered by a 1.0-liter three-cylinder K-Series petrol engine capable of 68 PS and 90 Nm of torque, rated at 23.1 km/l. Maruti will soon introduce a diesel variant on the Celerio with Suzuki's first self-developed 0.8-liter two-cylinder diesel engine.
