Marks Maruti's entry in the crossover segment.
The forthcoming Maruti SX4 S-Cross was snapped testing in a production ready avatar recently, with a badge hinting one of the likely engine options. The '1.6' moniker on the bootlid suggests either Suzuki's 1,586 cc petrol mill, or Fiat's 1,598 cc MultiJet diesel engine.
The S-Cross is available with both these engines in Europe. In case of the petrol, Suzuki claims 120 PS and 156 Nm of torque, and offers its 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT. The diesel engine develops an identical 120 PS but a higher 320 Nm of torque, and comes exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission.
Recent reports suggest that Maruti may choose to ditch the 'SX4 S-Cross' name, as it could be suggestive of the SX4 sedan, which is now discontinued in India. Instead, the crossover could be called the Maruti A-Cross for the domestic market.
