Would borrow its engines from the Figo Aspire.
The new 2015 Ford Figo hatchback was snapped testing near the outskirts of Pune, accompanied by the Figo Aspire compact sedan. The latter is expected to launch in India next month, while the hatchback’s launch would take place towards the end of this year.
Like its compact sedan sibling, the hatchback too will be powered by a 1.2-liter four-cylinder TiVCT petrol engine and a 1.5-liter Duratorq diesel engine. Both engines will be paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. Ford plans on offering its 1.5-liter petrol engine with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission on the Figo Aspire, but it remains to be seen if the same holds good for the hatchback.
The Figo hatchback will be the second car to be produced at Ford India’s new Sanand plant in Gujarat. Apart from catering to the domestic market, Ford India also plans on exporting the Figo to overseas markets, Africa being one of them.
Where the Figo Aspire would replace the Ford Classic, the new Figo hatchback will succeed the current model which was introduced in India back in 2009.
Rivals: Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Celerio, Chevrolet Beat, Honda Brio, Tata Kite
Expected price: 3.5-5.5 lakhs
Expected launch date: September 2015 in India
