Comeback car for Tata Motors taking its time to make inroads.
According to a report from Financial Express, the Tata Zest hasn't managed to capture the Indian buyer's imagination, since its market launch in August 2014.
In the sub-4m sedan segment, the total number of Zests sold since the launch is a bit more than the sales numbers that Maruti's Swift Dzire brings in a month. Even the Grand i10-based Xcent sedan managed overtake the Zest. However, in October and November, the Zest did manage to outsell the Honda Amaze, though the latter did manage to bounce back in December and January 2015.
If there's another thing that Tata Motors can be happy about, it is the fact that the Zest managed to increase passenger vehicle sales for the company to 13,047 units (19% increase from January 2014), and more than 20,000 Zests have been dispatched.

Analysts believe that though the numbers for the Zest are comparatively low for its segment, it's still good for a product that has only been in the market for 6 months. It is the first of Tata's new lineup of products that places a new sense of confidence on the brand; paving the way for upcoming cars, such as the Kite hatchback/sedan, and the Nexon mini SUV.
