IAB Rendering – Tata Nexon compact SUV production version

Within the next 24 months, Tata Motors will launch its first ever compact crossover SUV in India by way of the Nexon. Shown as a concept at the Delhi Motor Show earlier this year, the Nexon previews a Ford EcoSport rival from the Indian car maker which was once known for its stronghold of the UV segment.

The rendering you see here, made by our artist Shoeb, shows what the production Nexon could look like. Tata’s design head, Mr. Pratap Bose, told Indian Autos Blog earlier this year that the design of the concept would be preserved to the maximum extent when the vehicle meets production lines. It is with this aspect that our artist has given this rendering Tata’s much talked about design traits: The Humanity Line, Diamond DLO and the Slingshot Line.

If you’re thinking the Nexon looks non-aggressive for its segment, you’re not mistaken for Tata say they don’t want the car to have aggressive looks. Instead a stand-out design is favored. Naturally, it’s unlikely for the production Nexon to get those coach doors that were seen on the concept.

Other details we know about the Nexon are that it will likely come powered by a new three-cylinder 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine with up to 110 PS (108.45 bhp) and 170 Nm of torque, and a 4WD system could be offered on the top-end variants.

Competitors: Ford EcoSport, VW Taigun, Mahindra S101

Expected Price: INR 5 – 7 lakhs, ex-Showroom

    Tata should focus on handling and safety (both active and passive) on this car to make it a real great product. It is good looking and deserve to be a great car then just another value for money vehicle from Tata. Fingers crossed.

    Good effort by the T M.l liked the design and the specs.But Lot more depends on the performance and the versatility of the vehicle.It should have true characteristics of suv, not just another urban so called compact suv like ecopsort, duster etc.Hope it will have options of AW drive system for offroading.

    better than tata sumo or grande,tata mised out the league first tag so now too late n a lost ground for them now

    24 months is too late for this gorgeous vehicle. It should have been on the roads now, before the Zest and TATAs could’ve eyed 3rd/4th spot in 6-12 months. Anyway, Shrawan, as per your recommendation, I have booked a Ecosport.
    Tatas should gauge the response to Zest and only then launch the Bolt. Till then continue with the Vista. Bolt is identical to the Vista from the side profile. Some owners of old ALtOare waiting for the AMT Nano with openable boot.

        Mr. Roy-Don’t you think the mini SUV design is getting repetitive and boring to the eye? Take Ecosport, the ix25 or the upcoming Mahindra one? They all sport the same design language. In that sense, the Nexon might stand out from the crowd when its launched in 2016 ; by then we’ll have a bunch of similar looking cars on the Indian road. Then again, its a risk, going against the trend. We’ll have to wait the see how the production model turns out to be in reality, the rendering looks a little crude for me. Looking at the way, Tata’s have done the prework for Zest, we can expect some good efforts here.

        The compact segments are flooding the market from all leading auto companies. The Tata will have price advantage subject to the performance of their newly launched Revotron Turbo Engine.

        Hope u know Ix25 doesn’t have to fit in the sub 4 mtr. Taking this into account you better compare Duster , S Cross to Ix25 and the Nexon to Ecosport only for now.
