Likely affects only right-hand drive Thai-made cars.

Sales of the Thai-made Suzuki Celerio have been halted in the U.K. and Republic of Ireland following a brake failure experienced during an Autocar UK test. Suzuki has advised customers not to drive their cars, and has given owners courtesy cars.

Celerio sales stopped in the UK after two cars faced brake failure.

According to the publication, the Celerio was being put through a test at the Millbrook Proving Ground. One of the tests, an 80-0 mph (128-0 km/h) deceleration, saw the brake pedal being stuck in the fully depressed position, and having no effect on the car’s speed. The tester(s) was able to bring the car to a stop by using engine braking and the handbrake. Subsequently, a second Celerio was used as a replacement, though the outcome was as before.

The Celerio for the European market is made at Suzuki’s Rayong plant in Thailand. According to the publication, only the right-hand drive cars made at this plant are possibly affected. The Celerio for the Indian market is unaffected.

The Thai-made Celerio, despite offering standard features like dual-front airbags, ABS, front side airbags and ESP, managed a score of only 3/5 in the Euro NCAP crash test. The European model is powered by a 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, just like the Indian Celerio.
