The SUV was accompanied by the upcoming GLE Coupe.
The 2016 Mercedes Benz GLS (Mercedes GL facelift) has been spotted undergoing winter testing in Lapland, Finland. Photos of the vehicle were published on Auto Plus by reader GonzBMX.
While the large part of the vehicle was uncovered, the front-end and the rear bumper were camouflaged, while the rest of the car was partly hidden due to snow. A previous report says the vehicle is expected to feature a more aggressive looking front-end, redesigned taillamps, exhaust tips and an updated rear bumper, consistent with the camou on this test mule.
On the inside, the GLS is likely to benefit from a new 8-inch touchscreen system and the car's expected to be showcased later this year, while a market launch is expected in 2016.
In future, Mercedes could also launch a more luxurious version of the GLS under its Maybach sub-brand, although that may not come about before the next generation is introduced.

As for the vehicle accompanying the GLS, it's the upcoming GLE Coupe. Unveiled late last year, the Mercedes GLE Coupe made a debut earlier this year at the 2015 NAIAS. It's positioned to take on the BMW X6 using the latter's very successful (but highly frowned upon) formula of coupe design amalgamated with SUV underpinnings and ground clearance.
