Will be offered with petrol and diesel engines to rival the Mobilio and Ertiga.

Hyundai is unlikely to launch an MPV in the Indian market next year, sources tell Indian Autos Blog. The company is indeed working on an MPV that would be introduced in markets like India, but its introduction will not happen in 2016, a person working with the project said.

Hyundai Hexa Space (1)
The Hexa Space concept shown at the 2012 Auto Expo likely previews the design of the new MPV.

Designed to rival the likes of the Honda Mobilio and Maruti Ertiga, the product would see the Korean car maker enter a new segment. The MPV from Hyundai, the Honda Mobilio and Maruti Ertiga are positioned below the Innova, which continues to remain the top-selling MPV in India with average monthly sales of 5,302 units (calculated between June-December 2014).

However, in case of the Innova, sales are churned from the private buyer and fleet operators. The Hyundai MPV on the other hand will be targeted towards private customers only, much like the Mobilio.

A petrol and diesel variant will be offered on the Hyundai MPV, and given the car makers wide array of engines (1.4-liter and 1.6-liter four-cylinder units are available in petrol and diesel guises on products like the Verna), the company will certainly not face a problem in offering fuel efficient units.
