Launch expected next month.

A revised suspension will complement the increased ground clearance.

In these spyshots, the i20 Cross features projector headlights, LED daytime running lights, different alloy wheels, roof rails, and notably, higher ground clearance. Sources in Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) told Indian Autos Blog that the car will indeed get higher ground clearance with a revised suspension system.

The i20 Cross will also be sold in international markets, apart from the India.

Powering the i20 Cross will be the same 1.2-liter VTVT petrol and 1.4-liter CRDi diesel engine found on the Elite i20. These units are unlikely to offer higher power or torque in the i20 Cross, a source said. The petrol will be paired to a 5-speed manual while the diesel gets a 6-speed manual transmission.

The i20 Cross will share its engines with the Elite i20.

HMIL will choose to keep the ‘i20’ name, but will add a suitable prefix/suffix to connote the car’s adventurous and bold design. Apart from India, other markets which sell the Elite i20 are likely to get the Cross as well.

Competitors: Fiat Avventura, Toyota Etios Cross, VW Cross Polo
Expected Price: INR 6.5-8 lakhs, ex-Showroom
