Prices set to increase correspondingly.
According to a report on Autocar India, all Toyota models in India will be fitted with an airbag in the coming months. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) will be offering this safety feature across its lineup.
TKM sells the Etios Liva, Etios Cross, Etios sedan, Innova, Corolla, Fortuner, Camry, Prius, Land Cruiser Prado and Land Cruiser LC200 in India. The entry-level Etios range of cars received an update in October 2014 which saw the inclusion of dual front airbags across the range.
An airbag is currently not offered on the base variant of the Innova MPV. However, in the coming months, TKM plans on introducing at least a driver-side airbag on the Innova if not dual front airbags. Prices could increase by INR 40,000 (including a manufacturer-level price increase), but TKM believes the safety quotient of its cars will have a higher standing.
At the moment, VW is the only non-luxury car manufacturer to offer dual-front airbags as a standard feature across its range of cars including the Polo, Vento, Cross Polo and Jetta.

With India's notorious safety standards set to take a positive turn with the arrival of BNVSAP (Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program), expect safety equipment like ABS and airbags to find their way in more models.
