Ford India's new volume sellers will be made at the Gujarat plant.
Indian Autos Blog learns from sources within Ford India that the new Ford Figo compact sedan (the production version of the concept shown at the Auto Expo last year) will meet production lines before the end of this quarter. The car will be manufactured at Ford India's new production facility in Sanand, Gujarat.
Set to rival the likes of the Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest and Hyundai Xcent, the Figo compact sedan will be the next step in improving Ford India's market share (the EcoSport has been helping the carmaker improve sales since June 2013).
Following the sedan's introduction, the hatchback version would soon follow. Both these cars are based on a re-engineered version of the previous generation Fiesta's platform. They're structurally enhanced with high-strength steel, Ford announced at the time of the launch of the new Ka (Figo) in Brazil last year.
Ford India will no longer use the 1.4-liter TDCi engine on the Figo or the compact sedan. Instead it'll opt for the larger and more powerful 1.5-liter DuraTorq diesel seen on the EcoSport and 2014 Fiesta.
Both cars will feature a dashboard resemblant to modern Fords, and the company's SYNC multimedia system could make an appearance on the higher variants of these cars.
