Has a pure electric range of 37 km.
According to a report on ZigWheels, the BMW i8 hybrid sportscar will launch in India next month, for an expected price of INR 2 crores, ex-Showroom. The i8 will essentially debut the 'i' brand in India, and was in fact showcased at the Auto Expo last year.
Power for the i8 comes from a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine assisted by an electric motor. The gasoline engine is good for 231 PS (227.74 bhp) and 320 Nm of torque, while the motor adds a further 131 PS (129.15 bhp) and 250 Nm, giving the car a combined 362 PS (356.9 bhp) and 570 Nm of torque.
BMW claims the i8 will do 0-100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds and hit a limited top-speed of 250 km/h. In pure electric mode, the i8 can be run for 37 km with a top-speed of 120 km/h.
Thanks to a body built extensively from carbon fiber, the i8 weighs just 1,485 kg including its battery pack, making it a couple of kilograms lighter than the new M4 Coupe which launched recently.
