New Sienta is reported to have grown in length and wheelbase.

According to reports coming from Japan, Toyota is working on the next generation of the Sienta people carrier, which could launch in Japan as soon as June this year. Car Sensor has a rendering of the new Sienta, which it claims will be longer in length and wheelbase compared to the first generation model.

Power for the new Sienta would come from a 1.5L gasoline engine.

According to the report, the Sienta will measure about 4.2 meters in length, an increase of about 0.1 meter in comparison to the outgoing model. However, the MPV will still get the defining sliding rear doors, which is more of a practical feature in Tokyo's crowded streets.

Power will be sourced from a 1.5-liter four-cylinder which would benefit from electric VVT (variable valve timing) and an Atkinson cycle for better fuel efficiency.

The Sienta could be an ideal fit below the Innova in India, which over the years has seen its price increase to over INR 15.8 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi. Add to that, the segment below the Innova (comprised of the Maruti Ertiga, Honda Mobilio and Chevrolet Enjoy) account for sales of 9,100 units per month.

However, TKM (Toyota Kirloskar Motor) have no immediate plans of launching a sub-Innova MPV and the Sienta, like other Japanese minivans with sliding doors, may never leave home. Toyota will instead launch the next generation Innova in India in early 2016 following its international showcase this year.
