Audi has announced another SUV, one that sits below the Q3, to be called the Q1. Scheduled for a 2016 debut, the Q1 is most likely to be positioned as an urban crossover without great emphasis on off-roading, as a report suggests.
German magazine Auto Bild has released a rendering of the Q1. It bears resemblance to the recently refreshed Q3, especially with new design features like the six-point grille in place. And its obvious to see that this render is based on the VW Taigun mini SUV. Accompanying the picture is some vital information.
The Audi Q1 will be based on the MQB platform, much like the next-generation Volkswagen Polo. The all-wheel drive quattro system isn't going to be compulsorily available, but the crossover will benefit from the SUV-like exterior, increased ground clearance, and high seating position.
At 3.8 meters in length, the Q1 will be considerably smaller than the Q3. The engine range could be shared with the A1, which includes the 1.4-litre TFSI and TDI units (both producing 90 hp and mated to a 7-speed DSG), a hybrid version with a 110 hp 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 109 hp electric motor, and a 2-litre 231 hp TFSI petrol engine for a go-faster SQ1.

The Q1 range is expected to start below 20,000 Euros (equivalent to INR 15.3 lakhs). A product like the Q1 could be the next big thing for Audi in India if it aims to maintain a double-digit sales growth.
