Sportier looking Alto successor could get a turbocharged motor.
Here are the first images of the new Suzuki Alto bound for the Japanese market, which launches on December 22. The new Alto is expected to replace the older Alto model which made its debut at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show.
Designers have given the small car a sportier look with sharply cut headlights, a retro grille and bumper and an interesting upward kink for the rear window. As these images show, there is bound to be more than one version of the new Alto. A dual-tone version with black bumpers, wing mirror covers and side cladding is seen, as is a sportier looking model with a hood scoop, foglights and position lights.
The new Alto, being a ‘kei car’ could be powered by the same or an updated version of the three-cylinder 0.66-liter gasoline engine found on the older Alto. This engine makes 54 PS at 6,500 rpm and 63 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. A 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox are available on the older Alto, though the new model could see a more efficient CVT.
Suzuki is bound to offer 2WD and 4WD on the car, and the fuel efficiency is expected to be more than 21 km/l. Further, reports suggest that a turbocharged variant could also be offered.
More details on the new Alto for Japan are expected in the days to come.
