Sportier looking Alto successor could get a turbocharged motor.

Designers have given the small car a sportier look with sharply cut headlights, a retro grille and bumper and an interesting upward kink for the rear window. As these images show, there is bound to be more than one version of the new Alto. A dual-tone version with black bumpers, wing mirror covers and side cladding is seen, as is a sportier looking model with a hood scoop, foglights and position lights.

The new Alto, being a 'kei car' could be powered by the same or an updated version of the three-cylinder 0.66-liter gasoline engine found on the older Alto. This engine makes 54 PS at 6,500 rpm and 63 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. A 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox are available on the older Alto, though the new model could see a more efficient CVT.
