Report – 2014 Honda Jazz’s Indian launch could be delayed

Posted on: Nov 14, 2014 - 8:30am IST

Aggressive pricing expected for Honda’s new B-segment hatchback.

The PTI reports that Honda Cars India could defer the launch of the new 2014 Jazz, owing to production constraints and huge demand for existing models. The company had earlier stated that the launch of the Jazz will take place this fiscal year, and a report read that March 2015 would indeed see the hatchback in showrooms.

The Jazz would be powered by a 1.2L petrol and a 1.5L diesel in India.

However, Honda says that demand for its current models has far exceeded expectations and hence the launch of the new Jazz is “slightly adjusted”. Mr. Hironori Kanayama, President and CEO, Honda Cars India, said that the company is yet to take a decision on the exact time of the launch.

Recently, Honda started a second shift at its second plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan, and thus increased production of the City. With this, the Tapukara plant is running at full capacity, the company said. The City’s production was moved from Greater Noida in order to accommodate production of the Mobilio MPV.

The Jazz, when launched in India, will be available with a 1.2-liter petrol engine and a 1.5-liter diesel engine. Honda will price the Jazz competitively as it shares plenty of parts with the new City, which has a 90 percent level of localization.

Competitors: VW Polo, Tata Bolt, Fiat Punto Evo, Maruti Swift, Hyundai Elite i20
Expected Price: INR 5–7 lakhs, ex-Showroom
Launch date in India: 2015

Honda should have, by now definite plans for the launch date for Jazz and inform the public , so that those Honda lovers can choose whether to wait or go for alternates (elite i20 or Polo or Swift). Right now it is only a guessing game and it is not a win-win situation for Honda.

People will prefer other hatchbacks the new Swift and the new I20 if Honda keeps on delaying Jazz.
They just want to delay as they want a good sale of other products like City and Mobilo. In the end after they release the delayed Jazz they wont find much takers as people already would have brought other Hatchbacks released earlier than Jazz. Not at all a good policy by Honda!

Honda this is absurd, you are delaying the launch of Jazz just because you want your other models to be sold off. Once Jazz is released you feel nobody will buy your other products. First you discontinued Jazz model then you are delayed it time and time again. People will refer swift or I20 if they want a hatchback model and once your release the already delayed Jazz you will find there are no more buyers because people would have already brought the new Swift and the new I20. Release Jazz in the next Fiscal year is a very bad and absurd decision. I hope the honda managament has some sense and release the Jazz atleast this fiscal year

If Honda can price Jazz just below Swift (not significantly, maybe 10K or so), Jazz will be making a bold statement.

Honda folks, we dont want any more toys based on the Brio. And you are engaged meeting the current demand !!!! Crazy, us Indians, that we gave you a wholehearted welcome for your products viz., Civic, City or Accord. The Jazz, of course, were a keenly awaited product from you, Honda. And you are waiting another year for its launch! It will be late for you to catch up with the young Indians. They want more and more futuristic products, not the same products with minor skin change. I bet, you take a survey for your Jazz and Vezel – 99% people will say “Yes, we want them”. Then what are yuou waitng for? The copycat Hyundai cleverly launched their I-20 (with your Vezel’s tail lamps) and they plan to launch a “Cross” version of the same. Their IX-25 is under way. It is high time for you to sense the soil eroding beneath your feet. Wake up, else the fall will be fatal!

The 1.2 L petrol engine option sounds so lame! Why not a 1.5L Petrol engine as an “RS” version at least?
