Parked next to the five-door Mini Cooper at the automaker's stand at the 2014 Paris Motor Show is the 2014 Mini which world debuted at the 2013 LA Auto Show and is on sale in most global markets. Still to debut in India, the new Mini is a significant upgrade in terms of dimensions, underpinning and powertrain specifications.
Debuting the BMW UKL front-wheel drive platform, the base Mini Cooper is powered by a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter petrol engine that produces 134 PS and 219 Nm of torque. The mid-level Cooper D has a 1.5-liter diesel motor that produces 114 PS and 269 Nm and the top-end Cooper S comes strapped with a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine delivering 189 PS and 300 Nm.
All models have a six-speed manual gearbox as standard and a six-speed automatic as an option. An optional variable damper control unit with two settings - comfort and sport - are offered across all variants.
The 2014 Mini stakes claim as the first car in its segment to have full LED headlights and taillights. The most expensive variant get an 8.8-inch infotainment system and several assistance systems as options.
BMW India's head honcho Philip von Sahr had told IAB that the new MINI is due in late 2014.
