Of the 16,758 units Honda Cars India sold in August 2014, 5,530 were of the Honda Mobilio.

Market leader Maruti Suzuki continued its upward trend with a 29 percent growth in sales from 76,018 units in August 2013 to 98,304 units this year. Hyundai Motor India, Maruti's closest rival, saw its sales rising from 28,311 units last August to 33,750 units this year, aided no doubt by the recent launch of the Hyundai Elite i20.

Honda Cars India continued its dream run with an 88 percent surge in sales for August 2014 compared to the corresponding month in 2013. Despite ceasing production of the Honda City, Honda's sales of 16,758 units compared to 8,913 units last month was driven largely by the Honda Amaze and the recently launched Honda Mobilio. Albeit from a lower base, Nissan India saw a 60 percent growth in sales from 2,494 units last August to 3,999 units this August.

Among those who faced negative sales was GM, which continues to slide. August saw GM India posting sales of 4,232 units, a drop of 37 percent, compared to the 6,673 units it had sold last August. Japanese giant Toyota's sales dipped by 5 percent, from 12,007 units in August 2013 to 11,215 units this year.
