IAB Report - 1 Lakh Honda diesel-powered cars sold in India

The cars have clocked 90 crore km cumulatively.

Honda Cars India announced that it has sold 100,000 cars powered by its 1.5-liter four-cylinder i-DTEC diesel engine. The diesel engine made its Indian debut in April last year under the hood of the Honda Amaze, which coincidentally clocked 100,000 sales recently.

The new City, launched in January this year, is also offered with this engine, as is the Mobilio MPV, which went on sale on July 23. Going forth, this engine will also be seen on the new Jazz, which is reported to launch in India in March 2015.

The diesel engine makes 100 PS (98.59 bhp) and 200 Nm of torque in the Amaze, City and Mobilio. It comes with a 5-speed manual transmission on the Amaze and Mobilio, while on the City it gets a 6-speed manual gearbox. Delivering 26 km/l in the new City, it makes the car the most fuel efficient in India.

The 1.5-liter i-DTEC diesel engine has been developed exclusively for India, and is based on Honda’s ‘Earth Dreams Technology’. It gets an all aluminum cylinder head joined to an open deck engine block. The car maker also said that the diesel variants of these cars have covered 90 crore km cumulatively (according to service history).
