Called the BMW X5 Security Plus, the armored version of the standard X5 has made its world debut at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show (Moscow International Auto Salon 2014).
Offering protection upto the VR6 standard where the car can withstand gun shots and firing automatic rifles like the AK-47, the X5 Security Plus however looks no different than the standard model. BMW haven't divulged many details on the armoury, but say that they have upgraded the X5's seam joints and connecting panel, while toughened safety glass prevents bullets from penetrating the cabin.
The Security Plus variant will be offered with only one engine - the 4.4-liter V8 engine from the xDrive50i - producing 449 bhp and paired to an 8-speed ZF gearbox. Thanks to the added security upgrades, the kerb weight is beyond 2,250 kg, says BMW.
