Production slated to commence later this month in Czech Republic.
Seen here are spy images of the next generation Skoda Fabia, which is confirmed to enter production at the company's main plant in Mlada Boleslav later this month. Skoda has already started teasing the car by revealing its headlight, and giving away a few technical details.
The spy images here give a clear look at the hatchback's rear and front fascia, though the headlights and grille are partly camouflaged. Based on a re-engineered version of the older Fabia's platform, Skoda has managed to reduce the weight of the hatchback by 65 kg. This is despite the car being 9 cm wider than its predecessor. It will also carry a larger boot at 330 liters.
Power for the new Fabia is announced to come from three- and four-cylinder engines. The petrol engine lineup will start with a 1.0-liter 60 bhp MPI petrol engine, and will extend to a 1.2-liter TSI unit making 110 bhp. Diesel variants will use a 1.4-liter three-cylinder engine with varying outputs of 74 bhp and 103 bhp.
The public premiere of the new Fabia will take place at the Paris Motor Show this October. However, an Indian launch is not on Skoda India's immediate priority as the company is focussed on segments of the Rapid and above.
