A report on the Economic Times says that Mahindra 2 Wheelers have discontinued the Pantero commuter motorcycle owing to poor sales performance of the product. Launched in early 2013, the Pantero has failed to make any sort of dent in its segment, and according to sales data published by the newspaper, the Pantero’s monthly sales were averaging only 200 units.

Mahindra Pantero side
The Mahindra Pantero was averaging just 200 units per month for the maker.

The Pantero was powered by a single-cylinder, four-stroke, air-cooled 106.7 cc engine making 8.5 PS (8.38 bhp) @ 7,500 rpm and 8.5 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm matched to a 4-speed transmission. The engine later went on to power the upmarket Centuro which is doing good in its segment. The upcoming G101 automatic scooter is also expected to adopt this motor.

The bike was sold in four trims and the prices ranged from INR 39,650 to INR 43,150 ex-Showroom, New Delhi.

With the discontinuation of the Pantero, Mahindra’s motorcycle lineup is a one member strong portfolio consisting of only the Centuro. However, Mahindra is expected to launch the Mojo soon.

Mahindra will, however, continue to make the Pantero for certain export markets. For example, the Mahindra Arro sold in Uganda is a modified version of the Pantero.
