The Hyundai Grand i10 became the fastest car to reach the 1 lakh sales milestone in India. The hatchback has achieved this feat in just 10 months, Hyundai said today in an email.
The small car, which is being sold alongside its predecessor, entered the list of top 5 best selling cars in India within the second month of its launch.
The Grand i10 is available in four petrol and four diesel variants. The petrol option is the 1.2-litre Kappa 2 engine that puts out 83 PS and 116 Nm of torque. The motor is mated either to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The diesel engine is a 1.1-litre three-cylinder mill which generates 71 PS and 163 Nm of torque. Mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the engine delivers a fuel economy of 24 km/l.
In the first five months of 2014, the hatchback clocked a monthly average of 9,972 units. In addition to the domestic market, the Hyundai Grand i10 is being exported from the Chennai plant to markets likes Bolivia, Chile, Uruguay, Indonesia, Nepal and South Africa.
Hyundai India's other volume earner, the i20, is at the verge of entering its second generation. The testing of the Hyundai i20 is in the final phases and the premium hatchback is expected to make its global debut in India sometime in the September-October period.
