The Bajaj Discover 150 F semi-faired motorcycle has started reaching showrooms shortly after the Discover 150 S (bikini fairing) surfaced. Bajaj had earlier announced that the new Discovers would be launched by the end of this month.
The Discover 150 F which was spied testing a few months ago is the top-end model of the Discover series which, despite having several members, needs a shot in the arm.
Both 150 cc motorcycles will be positioned at the premium end of the commuter segment and according to Bajaj, even if the niche positioning contributes to 5% of the total commuter bike sales, it would mean considerable volumes, given the sheer size of the segment.
It appears that rather than giving a nip and tuck to the old Discover 150, Bajaj has come up with a new product. In terms of design, save for the fairing which adopts a new identity, the rest of the motorcycle follows the Discover 125 ST's appearance. Despite its premium positioning, the Discover still makes do without an alloy fuel filler cap. The gear shifter continues to be a heel-and-toe element to suit the target customer's taste.
The new 150 cc DTS-i engine employs 4-valve technology but the power figures are still under wraps. According to a dealer, the stats would be close to that of the Pulsar 150.
The Bajaj Discover 150 F is the only faired commuter in India, that is if the Honda CBF Stunner and Hero Igniter are considered sporty motorcycles owing to their market positioning.
The new Discover duo should go on sale in a matter of days.
