The Proton P2-30A (codename) global small car has been testing rigorously in Malaysia for the past few months. The Malaysian automaker’s ambition is taking its Savvy successor far beyond the Malaysian borders and so, is benchmarking it against hatchbacks like the Ford Fiesta, VW Polo, Honda Brio and the Perodua Myvi.

The Proton P2-30A will be a global model and hence should pass the Euro-NCAP crash test.

Here are the fully revealing spy pictures of the new Proton hatchback which appear to have been taken before the ASEAN-NCAP crash test preparation. Since the car will be marketed in Europe, it would have to be safe enough to not just pass, but perform decently in the Euro-NCAP tests as well.

The tall boy hatchback gets peeled back headlamps, chrome headlined grille with black horizontal slats and trapezoidal secondary air dam. The front bumper incorporates a chin spoiler and the foglamps sport built-in LED daytime running lights.

The rear fascia of the P2-30A is composed of a bulky bumper, vertically staked combination lights, roof mounted spoiler and black plastic diffuser.

The P2-30A would rival with the likes of VW Up!, Hyundai i10 and Kia Picanto.

The P2-30A’s powertrain details are still sketchy. Malaysian media expects the hatchback to be powered by a petrol motor which could displace somewhere between 1.2- to 1.3-litre, paired with manual and automatic transmissions. Being a global model, expect Proton to stuff the car with adequate safety and creature comforts.

The Proton P2-30A will derive its name from a naming contest that was conducted by the company in Malaysia. The intended global rivals include the Hyundai i10, VW Up!, Kia Picanto, etc. Launch in its home turf is expected by the end of this year.

Proton has not announced plans to introduce its vehicles in India yet.

Proton is known much in India. Like to know more about their launches in India. For any company now days in India is the toughest market, to compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Honda, Ford, Renault is a challenge. Bcoz they all came with their own 1 or 2 phenomenal products and are already proven. For Proton too it will be the same. Depends on the quality of their first product yet to be launched.
