The Audi A3 Sedan powered by the 1.8-litre TFSI turbocharged petrol motor has been spotted testing in Mumbai without any camouflage by Motorbash.com's reader Kush Shah. The entry level luxury sedan was showcased at Auto Expo 2014 in the same specification.
The compact luxury sedan which will the be most affordable Audi in India is expected to go on sale sometime next month or in August. The A3 is based on the VW Group's MQB platform and will be locally assembled at Audi India's Aurangabad plant from CKD kits made at Audi's Gyor plant in Hungary.
The 1.8-litre TFSI turbocharged petrol engine is good enough for 180 hp and comes mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. The A3 1.8 TFSI is claimed to do the 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.2 seconds.
The diesel variant which was spotted testing earlier is powered by a 150 hp 2.0-litre TDI motor. The diesel engined A3 Sedan could come with both 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic transmissions.
Going by previous announcements from Audi officials, the base variant of A3 Sedan is expected to be priced less than Rs. 25 lakh, putting it in contention with the Mercedes A Class and BMW 1 Series, both of which are hatchbacks.
In 2013, Audi India became the first luxury car manufacturer to sell over 10,000 units in India. With a competitive pricing for the A3, the company's overall sales volume is set to grow further.
