Nissan will be revealing the next generation Navara pickup truck on June 11. Described as a global model by Nissan, we highly doubt the introduction of the Navara in the Indian market. However, Nissan says its possible to have an SUV based on the Navara and that interests us.

Speaking to Car Advice, Nissan's global chief planning officer, Andy Palmer, said that he wouldn't rule out an SUV based on the new Navara. An SUV needs to have good durability, reliability and quality, which are the same set of judging factors incorporated in pickups, he said. A rugged seven-seating Navara based SUV would rival the likes of the upcoming Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner.
Nissan's current rival to these vehicles, the X-Trail, moved to the next generation last year, adapting a new monocoque chassis (CMF platform) with soft crossover styling. Nissan had also discontinued the X-Trail in India earlier this year with no signs of the successor in immediate sight.
Speaking about the Navara itself, Palmer said that the new generation model would measure about the same as its predecessor. Improvements would be carried out to the design of the exteriors and interiors, while fuel consumption would be lesser than the older model.
Based on the teaser image, the new Navara seems easily identifiable as a Nissan thanks to its solid chrome grille. Further details will be out on June 11.
