VW India will launch the refreshed Polo towards the middle of next month, Indian Autos Blog was told by its sources.
The refreshed Polo will get a new front bumper with redone chrome enclosures for its foglights. The grille element, which currently features a twin-slat chrome layout, is of a single-slat design in the facelifted model, and the headlights sport different mirror elements. A new rear bumper with a wider area for the registration plate, and new body colors, sums up the exteriors of the Polo facelift.
Inside, the 2014 Polo gets a new 3-spoke steering wheel which manages to look a lot more premium than the current model. Other interior changes include a silver insert for the center console and a new font type for the instrument cluster.
Mechanically, the diesel Polo is expected to get a new engine. Currently, VW offers the hatchback with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder diesel on the regular TDI variants, and a 1.6-liter four-cylinder on the GT TDI variant. On the refreshed model, a four-cylinder 1.5-liter engine will do duty on both, the TDI and GT TDI, variants. For the TDI, the power output would be about 80 bhp while the GT TDI will produce about 104 bhp.
The petrol variants which are offered with 1.2-liter three-cylinder and 1.2-liter four-cylinder TSI engines will continue unchanged.
On the wake of new rivals such as the Tata Bolt, new Hyundai i20 and Honda Jazz, not to mention refreshed versions of the Swift and Punto, VW have chosen the right time to introduce the 2014 Polo.
