Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that it has received orders for around 58,000 units of the Maruti Celerio, launched at the Auto Expo 2014.

A report on the Economic Times quotes Mayank Pareek, senior executive officer at Maruti Suzuki, who says that about 28,000 units of the Celerio have been delivered as of now. A future 30,000 bookings are in hand with the company.

Maruti Suzuki has delivered 28,000 of the 58,000 orders it has received for the Maruti Celerio.

The report also mentions that the company is increasing Celerio’s production from the current 6,000 units per month to 7,000 a month. The delay, Pareek says, is not due to production constraints at Maruti but due to such constraints at the suppliers’ ends. This should bring down the waiting period, which was earlier reported to stand at 7-8 months.

Pareek also says that 50 percent of the models sold are of the AMT variant. This is likely to include the 30,000 orders that Maruti has in its hands. A diesel variant of the Celerio is also expected soon. It is reported to be powered by the same turbocharged diesel engine that will do duty on the upcoming Suzuki-Carry based Maruti Y9T small commercial vehicle.

Apart from the Celerio, Pareek said that facelifts and special edition vehicles will keep coming, apart from one new model being launched each year.
