Report – Honda Cars India to commence production of Mobilio in June, Jazz in July

Posted on: Apr 7, 2014 - 2:52pm IST

Honda Cars India is gearing up to produce two of its new offerings, the Mobilio and Jazz. A report on Autocar Professional says that production of the Mobilio will commence in June this year at Honda India’s Greater Noida plant.

Honda Mobilio front three quarters left at Auto Expo 2014
The Honda Mobilio will rival the Maruti Ertiga when it launches in the second financial quarter of this year.

To begin with, Honda will produce about 45,000 units of the Mobilio annually. The market launch of the Maruti Ertiga battler will take place in the second quarter of this financial year (July-September period). The Mobilio will be sold with a petrol and a diesel engine option. The petrol motor would most likely be the new City’s 1.5-liter engine which produces 119 PS of power and 145 Nm of torque.

A Honda official said the variant tree would be like other Honda cars in India – the petrol model will get a manual and an automatic gearbox option, while the diesel would be a manual. The diesel Mobilio will be powered by the 1.5-liter i-DTEC engine which produces 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque. Honda has the option of using a 5-speed manual or 6-speed manual transmission for the diesel.

Honda Jazz front three quarter right live
The Jazz will be offered with a petrol and diesel engine this time around.

The second launch for Honda India this fiscal is the new Jazz. Production of the Jazz will commence at Honda’s Tapukara facility as early as July this year, according to Autocar. The production volume is estimated at 20,000 units per annum. The new Jazz, like the Mobilio, will be offered with a petrol and diesel option.

The report completely contradicts Honda India who had announced that the Jazz would not come in 2014.

Could you please advise on any expected compact SUVs to be launched with specs like that of Ford Ecosport. To be specific:

    Around 100 – 110 PS of Power
    Around 1.5 L of engine
    Around 3.99 m of Length
Priced somewhere around 5.5-7 Lakhs ex-showroom for Base model.

      Hi SS,

If you’re specific about the sub-4m length, you need to look out for the Mahindra S101 compact SUV which is coming next year. It’ll likely satisfy all your requirements that you mentioned.

Another mini SUV matching your requirements is the VW Taigun, which isn’t expected until 2016.

      Hi Devang,

Clearly 2014 will see the launch of the Honda Mobilio. If you’re willing to wait until 2015, we may see the Lodgy MPV from Dacia.

      Hi Sandeep,

The Mobilio will certainly be an MPV to watch out for. While the features for the Indian model are unconfirmed, we’re sure that the diesel engine will offer near class-leading efficiency and the car will be attractively priced. Suggest you to wait for it.

Hey Anjan…this report comes in as a sweet surprise for all those waiting for the new Jazz.

However, I guess, this is not an official announcement from Honda. Is this based on speculation or insider information? Any clue?

I wish this turns out to be true and turn out to be the miracle all Jazz fans were hoping to happen 🙂
